SPAM Email

Spam email has increased dramatically over recent years , Spam is the term used to describe electronic junk mail which is sent via email.

On 10 April 2004, Australia’s anti-spam legislation – the Spam Act 2003 came into effect. The Spam Act identifies spam as 'unsolicited commercial electronic messages'. The Act covers email, instant messaging, SMS and MMS (text and image-based mobile phone messaging) of a commercial nature. It does not cover faxes, internet pop-ups or voice telemarketing.

Wideband as a member of the Internet Industry Association is committed to informing its customers of best practice principles to reduce the incidence of Spam and to ensure that customers continue to abide by the " Wideband Networks Acceptable Use Policy " and not to engage in any activity which may fall or be deemed to fall under the act.

Should you be victim of spam you have the right to make a complaint to the ACMA click here.

The ACMA will be able to inform you of your rights and the procedures you can undertake to register a complaint.

If you are the victim of a spam email which you believe originates from a Wideband user account you can email abuse@wideband.net.au where you complaint will be investigated.

Should it be found that a Wideband customer is engaging in the use of spam from their account, Wideband reserves its rights under its Acceptable Use Policy to suspend or terminate the offending account or to take what ever reasonable steps it deems necessary to suspend or terminate the offending account.

Wideband automatically offers a level of basic spam filtering to non commercial customers using spam assassin which will eliminate most spam emails, however no system is full proof and we advocate customers also having their own personal spam filtering software for their email programs.

Customers should be aware that there are many commercial products on the market for purchase which provide filtering of email to identify and eliminate spam , Wideband not does not endorse any particular company or product.
