Click Here for further details about wireless locations that can be accessed through Wideband Networks.
What's clear line of sight?
Clear line of sight means there are no obstructions between you and our transmission tower. This includes trees and other buildings. We have been known to make connections work through small amounts of trees however this has to be assessed on a case-by-case basis prior to installation.
How can l tell if l can see one of the transmission sites?
Wideband has transmission sites in Blackwarry, Bruthen, Callignee, Fernbank, Foster North, Granite Rock, Morwell, Moe South, Mt Taylor, Rosedale, Sale, Seaton, Tinamba, Toongabbie, Toora, Tyers and Yallourn North.
Once an application is received we conduct a site survey to check you can see one of our sites and to ensure that your connection can proceed.
How does Wideband Work?
Wideband uses wireless technology to provide Internet access to areas that are not covered by traditional broadband such as ADSL. It is possible for clients to receive a Wideband service up to 25km from one of our tower sites, whereas ADSL is physically limited to around 4km.
How big is the antenna?
The antenna is around 300mm square and can mount on your existing TV antenna mast, or a new mast that we can provide. The antenna is not intrusive.
What type of equipment do l need?
All you need is a computer (Pentium or higher) with an Ethernet network card. If you don't have a network card we can supply one. Wideband provides all the wireless antenna equipment and associated cabling down from the antenna to your computer. You must be running Windows ME, 2000, or XP. It is also compatible with Unix and Mac based systems running Mac OS9 or higher.
How long does the Installation Take?
The installation time is usually 2-3 hours for a standard installation which is included in our normal installation price. Should your installation be outside of a regular install the technician on the day of the assessment will advise of any additional charges.
Do l need a phone line?
No, you do not need a phone line to use the Wideband service. It is completely self contained and your phone will be free to make and receive calls as normal.
Can l use multiple computers on one connection?
Yes the Wideband system is suitable for use with multiple computers.
Can l run my own Mail / Web / FTP Server?
Yes if you are on a business plan, NO if you are on a Residential plan. Residential plans are not able to run Mail / Web / FTP Servers as their corresponding ports are blocked in the network. This will typically not affect most home users as Wideband provides e-mail addresses with all accounts.
Can l use a Linux / Unix or Mac system to connect?
Yes the system is compatible with Linux / Unix / Mac based systems however we are unable to provide technical support for these installations.
